So we are merely days away from the end of the first season of AMC’s The Walking Dead. If you’ve followed us on Facebook, you’ll know that we’ve been just a little bit excited about this show hitting the air. The show has shattered cable ratings and has given us some quality TV for the last month, mostly because the show comes off as a new zombie movie every week. The show’s been impressive enough that I will officially declare it my “LOST Replacement”.
The text I sent out after “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One” around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning said, “Followed the book pretty well. Acting was top notch. Cinematography was excellent.”
The first half of the final book to Jo Rowling’s epic tale not only met my expectations but pulverized them to tiny bits even Hermoine would have a problem putting back together, and that’s something.
Howdy folks, lucidswirl here,
So Fearless Leader posted on my Facebook wall a link that got the “Dumbass” tag on Fark.com.
Five Reasons the Potter movies are better than the books?
Ok then … I bit the bait. And then spit out the hook.
Point One – Alfonso Cuaron’s cinematography was great, heck it was darn near perfectly beautiful for movie three, “Prisoner of Azkaban.” The film is one of my favorites of the entire series from a movie standpoint, though David Yates’ take on movie five and six are superb. Most fans will say POA is one of their top favorites as a book even, which is what really irks people about the movie.
The movie “Due Date” starring Robert Downey Jr & Zach Galifianakis may not be an official re-make of “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”, but it’s exactly what one in this decade would most certainly feel like. However whereas in “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” you get a little heart to the story, “Due Date” substitutes heart for laughs.
Conan is back!!!! What a long wait we’ve had to go through! (Most of it spent by getting into civil arguments with Leno fans) Since his rather messy departure from NBC. Conan finally made a return to late night TV. Passing the time before he could legally be on TV again, Conan had a successful “Legally prohibited from being funny on TV” tour, kept us laughing with his twitter account postings, and in recent days had a free t-shirt giveaway which Lucidswirl and I had tried and unsuccessfully attempted to win some free swag (lucidswirl got closest though). Now that wait is over and Conan is back on the TV where he belongs and I couldn’t be any happier.
My day just got better! Despite being bankrupt, MGM has announced a release date for the next James Bond movie. Looks like we can see Bond back in 2 years.
Hopefully this means Daniel Craig will retain his role as Bond. When he was first announced as Bond, I was a pretty harsh critic since he was “too f*cking blonde!!”, but that quickly changed when I caught Casino Royale. Granted “Quantum of Solace” had mixed reviews in addition to a stupid name for a movie, I still liked it and feel that Craig-Bond should get another crack at it. Here’s hoping they keep their word!
Howdy, lucidswirl here.
Deadline Hollywood is reporting Martin Sheen is set to take on the role of Uncle Ben in the Spidey reboot. Great news for a great actor. The other news with this bit is Sally Field is apparently in early talks to be Aunt May.
This is some pretty cool news because it means there will be some good acting chops going into this reboot. Of course the first Rami film was not lacking talent with Tobey leading along with Willem Defoe, Cliff Robertson and even James Franco (who now is quite the actor) plus Kirsten Dunst. But still, even the reboot on paper has potential with these at least Sheen, hopefully Field and the already decided upon Andrew Garfield (I need to see some of his work), Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors.

In the event, that it really ends up happening it’s important to know how to survive a zombie outbreak. I’ll leave the actual tactics and survival skills to The Zombie Handbook, but being a watcher of zombie flicks, I’ve learned that your choices in life based on career and attitude also plays a role in zombie survival. Here’s a list of people in zombie movies and the chances they have for Survival based on what they do for a job….or just how they act.

You may be wondering why Iron Man’s Mark II armor is on this page, or you may just want to know what the hell happened to the site. Over the week PopCultureAsylum.com has been under a state of re-design. Just like Tony Stark, we took what we knew from a lesser model and created a better model of something. Granted that the second Iron Man suit kinda sucked due to not being able to fly very high without screwing up, I’m pretty confident about this new “model” for PopCultureAsylum.com. The old site is still around because I simply did not want to redo the last 3 months of articles and reviews, so those will stay on the old layout and everything, plus I’m lazy. However, this new version of the site will have a lot to offer, most of which can be found in the previous post below
Good things are about to happen here at PopCultureAsylum.com! If you haven’t joined our fanpage at Facebook, you should give it a look. We’re counting down to Halloween/Premiere night of “The Walking Dead” by posting almost-daily zombie links. A few treasures include a zombie dog, Lego zombies, and much much more!
Thanks for stopping by & above all, stay classy!
