Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is one of the best movies ever to grace the silver screen. It ushered in a new era of special effects, made dinosaurs cool (before modern science tried to ruin them), and it’s legacy should be up there along with Star Wars, Star Trek and so on when it comes to memorable movies. Here’s our collection of anything and everything Jurassic Park

Bad-Ass Movie Hall of Fame: Jurassic Park

Posted on February 21, 2011 by Brad

I love the hell out of Jurassic Park. It’s hands down my favorite movie and despite being almost 20 somewhat years after I first saw it in theaters, the magic of the movie has not yet worn off on me…and I’m not alone. This movie is comparable to Star Wars when it comes to having dedicated fan bases. So naturally, this amazing film deserves to be in our PopCultureAsylum’s Bad-Ass Movie Hall Of Fame. Here are a few random things that make this movie awesome (besides the fact that it’s freakin Jurassic Park!!!)

Ignorance Is Bliss: Why The Less We Know About Velociraptors, The Better Off We Are

Posted on February 22, 2011 by Brad

Show of hands…prior to Jurassic Park who knew what a Velociraptor was? Hmm just the Paleontologists? Despite being the alpha bad-ass of the Jurassic Park movies, it’s very doubtful anyone knew about this killing machine before seeing the movie Jurassic Park. The only thing we American kids would have seen similar was Deinonychus and to be honest, T-Rex was way cooler then. Soon after Jurassic Park, the Velociraptor became to dinosaurs what Boba Fett was to Star Wars: a bad-ass. Old favorites like Brachiosaurus, Triceratops and Allosaurus were put on the back burner as everyone clamored over the man-sized, smarter-than-the-average-dinosaur, Velociraptor. To be fair, why shouldn’t we? That movie made the Velociraptor the coolest dinosaur ever….the only problem is that according to science, everything we love about the Velociraptor is wrong:

Jurassic Park Week Day 3: Scenes From The Novel That Would Have Been Interesting To See In The Movie

Posted on February 23, 2011 by Brad

Jurassic Park was by all means the best movie ever made. It however could have been a very different movie had a few scenes from Micheal Crichton’s novel shown up. Most of the key elements of the novel made it to the movie but had the following scenes happened we would see a scarier, gorier and explosion filled version of Jurassic Park.

Today’s entry in PopCultureAsylum‘s Jurassic Park Week focuses on some scenes in the Micheal Crichton novel that could have been cool in the movie if they were added in.

Jurassic Park Week Day 4: A Stroll Down Memory Lane A.K.A. The Day I Got To Meet The Dinosaurs From Jurassic Park

Posted on February 24, 2011 by Brad

In my time I’ve seen some pretty cool stuff but nothing quite beats the time that a traveling exhibit of Jurassic Park hit my home state of Texas. The year was 1994, the movie was still very much fresh in everyone’s minds and it was finally released on home video where it would be watched over and over again by fanatics like myself. So naturally when “The Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park” came to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, I had probably my biggest fanatic freakouts ever. Everything leading up to it was cool, especially skipping school to go see it!! It did turn out that was class photo day and my year book labeled me as “not pictured” in my 4th grade class photo, but when it came to choosing between a dorky group photo or seeing dinosaurs, I think the dinosaurs were a much cooler choice.

Jurassic Park Week Day 5: A Look At The Jurassic Park Games From The Past, Quasi-Present, and Future

Posted on February 25, 2011 by Brad

It’s no secret that when a insanely successful blockbuster movie releases, there’s a good chance that it will be milked for everything it’s worth. One of those resources that gets tapped is video games.

In most cases, movie-inspired video games are pretty underwhelming to be honest, but when it came to Jurassic Park, I drank the milk from the cash cow and obediently bought the games and I was pleasantly surprised. Here’s a look at the games from Jurassic Park’s past, kinda-present and the future:

Jurassic Park Week Day 6: The Pros & Cons Of Making A 4th Film

Posted on February 26, 2011 by Brad

Since Jurassic Park 3 came out in 2001, the rumors for a 4th film began instantly. However, the 4th movie has been stuck in development hell now for a decade, but recent interviews with Joe Johnson have re-sparked rumors of not only a 4th Jurassic Park movie, but a brand new trilogy that will be “un-like anything you’ve ever seen”.  As big of a fan of Jurassic Park that I am, I’m at a crossroads of whether or not I like the idea of a new film, let alone how 3 new films sound right now. Here’s some of the pros and cons of having another walk in the “park”.
